[So. It's raining.
Nevermind the odd and frankly bizarre side effect the rain seems to cause, but nevertheless during this time of the month? It's also freezing. Both are a unique combination this kid is not used to, being from what practically amounts as a desert planet. Naturally a cold was bound to happen sooner or later, and it doesn't help that he hasn't exactly met his physical contact quota recently; although, he hasn't quite taken that part into account yet.
So, when he makes a post, he sticks with text for now. Trying to speak - let alone sing - with a cold was already enough as it is.]
Does anyone know good ways for dealing with a cold? Specifically any home remedies that've worked for you in the past?
[He's about to type more when suddenly a sneeze abruptly cuts off that train of thought. ... It's a good thing he went with text here!]
Anything you have to offer would be appreciated.

[The last part is force of habit, if anything. Medicinal herbs, let alone teas, were sometimes rather hard to come by back home, and they could be rather expensive.]
And, well... would it be okay with you if we met somewhere else?
[She seems nice and he appreciates the help, but the offer seemed a bit... forward too.]
[text]
Herb supply is never a problem as long as I have sufficient lead time. I'll trade you if you've got some cooking pans I can borrow. I'm making the sweet potatoes for Pete's Thanksgiving thing.
[text]
He's in no condition to leave his room, lest his cold get even worse, but he's willing to deal with that risk.]
I should have a few of those around here. [Frankly, he feels a little better doing it this way. He'd feel bad if he just accepted their help with nothing to offer in return.] Would meeting outside of Building #1 be okay with you?
... And what exactly is this Thanksgiving thing, if you don't mind me asking?
[text]
That's fine, I'll be down in twenty minutes with tea packets. Don't leave the lobby. It's still pouring.
[There's a pause as she gets everything she needs together.]
It's basically an Americanized harvest festival with turkey as a central dish.
[text]
Of course, Rudy is mostly sure she probably did not mean it that way. Other people, on the other hand, that could be a different story. And naturally with Rudy being the private person he is, it isn't exactly unfounded nor unreasonable for him to be a little wary. He simply does not invite strangers to his room.
He'll quickly leave to collect the necessary items for her arrival, but he still manages a response in-between his gathering.]
A harvest festival? Sounds like a lot of fun. I'm not sure if these pots or pans are exactly what you're looking for, but hopefully they'll be of use.

I was so often given a drop of honey when my voice fell hoarse; though I recall my lord father was given a tincture of bitter liquorice and aniseed when he fell ill.
I would sooner suggest the honey.
[text]
Honey doesn't sound bad, especially if it's combined with a hot drink. Never thought of trying it by itself though.
[text]
To say naught of its relief on days so cold and wet. Though I would not be surprised if the weather first left you in such a state.
[Though if he was sick from the rain...]
Are you well enough to tend to yourself?
[text]
[With all that rain going on, it's probably not that far off an assumption anyway.]
I think I'm just not used to weather like this. But I'm sure it'll pass sooner or later.
[text]
[Strange, though; he hadn't seen many text messages on the terminals since he'd arrived...]
Have we met? I am Ramza Beoulve. I arrived last month.
[text]
[Normally he'd use the other functions but... well, right now would be a little awkward. And thinking about it now, simply typing everything was a lot less strange looking versus talking into it. Now that would look strange. It was a handy device either way - an awful lot like something Emma would cook up, he's sure...!]
Don't think we have. I'm Rudy Roughnight. Think I got here about a month before you, though can't say I'm completely used to everything here yet.
[text]
[Not to mention poor fighting conditions, but that didn't warrant much discussion.]
A pleasure, Rudy. And I cannot fault you for it... this world has wonders and curiosities naught like my own. These terminals alone would be an unthinkable marvel in my homeland, yet here I see them on every street corner!
[text]
[But maybe not this much.]
You tell me. And they all work perfectly too... [Normally tech like this doesn't exactly work right out the box back home, so to say. A thousand years of non-use will do that.] It'd be neat to figure out how they work.
[text] with apologies for the delay
[To say nothing of the technology...]
I would know naught of it. Such machines have always been beyond my ken.
[Not to mention the last time he tried to take control of one he ended up with a close friend in critican condition...]
Have you the knack for such things?
[video]
The video is the easiest option for her, so that's what she decides on. She does see the name and recognize it, so she answers in a familiar way.] I'm sorry to hear you've fallen ill. [Hopefully they won't start a tradition of always feeling down when they meet.]
I do remember my mother would sometimes make a soup with rice and onions whenever I caught something...
[text]
It's alright. I think I'm just not used to this sort of weather.
[Hopefully not! Though Rudy prefers to look at the brighter side of things. He's sure he'll be better before he knows it...!]
Really? I don't think I've ever had anything like that before. It sounds really good, though.
[video]
It usually made me feel better. [She brings a hand to her chin, looking thoughtful.] I would attempt to make it for you, though I'm not sure I could get it just right. Cooking has never been my strong suit... [She knows enough to survive, but not enough to really make anything that great.]
[text]
[Now that was a little odd to imagine. Coming from a world where rainfall was typically scarce no matter where you went, it's weird to think of a place where it's always pouring.]
That's all right, I'm sure I can figure something out. Thanks, Freya. [If this were video, there would be a visible smile right now.] I wouldn't say it's mine either, but I know a few things. Took me a while to get the basics down on my own.
[video]
[But it was only one small part of her world, so she didn't imagine a desert where it never rained would be that odd.]
I suppose that is something we share, then. [Well, at least there's a smile from her. She can smile for the both of you.] Is there anything that I can do for you otherwise? I know that sickness here can sometimes be caused by a lack of physical contact, but it would not surprise me if the cause was simply the change of the weather, either...
text;
Soup helps, I normally use mushrooms in the broth. If you can afford it here, adding vegetables makes it more potent.
text;
Mushrooms? I'll see about getting some. What kind of vegetables would you suggest?
text;
text;
Is anything helping to look after you?
text;
[Yes, he's serious. Some really would swear by that method back home, but he's never had a taste for it when sick. It doesn't help it left a rather bad first impression on him as a kid!]
I've got enough soup to last a couple days. I'm sure I can just head out later if I need any more, assuming all this rain lets up soon.

I know it may be strange as I'm new here, but if there's any way I can help I would like to. My name is Aqua.
no subject
And not at all. That's nice of you to offer, though I'm not sure I'd have much to offer in return.
[Force of habit and all. As much as he's willing to throw himself out there to help others, he has a few issues accepting it in return. At least without feeling a little bad about it. Stubborn kid.]

[--Oh. That quota. Now he remembers. ... and come to think of it, this kid has a point. That could be part of the reason he isn't feeling so well either. ... Still, he really isn't one for inviting unfamiliar people over. And he's more likely to take care of others before letting them take care of him anyway - it just feels strange being the one taken care of. But hey, the kid did ask!]
I think I should be okay on my own, thanks. That's kind of you to offer though. Weather here's not something I'm used to, but I'm sure I can find something around here.

Now, Gold doesn't mind his singing voice and all, but he ain't gonna deal with that when he's gotta funner things in mind. Like giving some crazy advice of his own. Some of them are true stories, but most of them are just there to see if the kid'll do it.]
my mom used to hang me over the wall and claimed the sicknessd fall right out of me. only when the sun was shining tho its bad when its raining like it is rite now.
you could try that still if you wanna or something but id probably go with one of the other two mom used to do for me.
so she'd get a bath ready for me rite?? this wouldnt be anything weird except that it was like, boiling hot. steam and everything. turned my skin red as a krabbys shell! apparently it like, chased the illness out and clear your nose and junk.
the second you could probably do is gargling hot sauce. its a cold, so you have to chase it out!
[Oh, it's a blessing this is all text, because he's cackling quietly to himself.]
[text]
[Water that hot would just outright scald someone, wouldn't it? Then again, this kid could just be speaking figuratively too...]
I'll keep that in mind. Still, hot sauce? ... Never heard of that one. Did that really work for you?
[text]
yea it did!! its definitely a sure fire way to get rid of sickness.
[text]
... I think I'd sooner take the hot tea and whiskey, thanks. [There are many types of food Rudy likes. Spicy food is not one of them, sadly. It's mind-boggling enough to imagine gargling it as a remedy...!] I'm surprised you can handle all that. The spiciness doesn't bother you at all?
[text]
im used to spiciness so nope! my mom makes these great volcano dinners back home, and ive always used the hot sauce remedy to get over whatever sickness i had, so it isnt anything big for me.
but if you cant handle that then an even better way is chewing on a stick of cinnamon.
