There isn't much fanfare in this posting, even with the official notice on the top. Actually, there's something almost stark in its simplicity. Just basic text and a blinking cursor on a black background, that slowly loads up into a full message:

Local and guest alike. Several months ago the city experienced a disruption in the form of a transmission hacking of an official feed; as many of you reading this are aware. We have since been reviewing the data and running decryption on the hijacking's interference, and have come to a conclusion on a location of the signal. It is outside of the city walls, which now makes it necessary for us to enlist the help of those called to the city. Be advised that the person is an unknown factor, and likely to be dangerous. In addition, the environment outside is hazardous as well, and should be approached with caution. Because of this risk, volunteers will be rewarded for their efforts. They will also be the first on the scene with uncovering answers that we all doubtless wish to discover. Representatives from their respective departments will be available to answer questions, and impart necessary information. Given the nature of this task, there may be additional requests granted. However, they are only requests. The first and major goal in this is gathering information. Fare you well, and may the Twins guard you while afield.

Strongly suspect, though...? [She pauses to reflect.] So if anything survived out there, it could have been demonized and thus dangerous? Is that what you're trying to say?

I don't have any problem if it does come to that, but I like to have an idea of what I'm getting myself and my friends into.

That's one of our current theories, actually. You see, we have surveillance equipment set up outside the city walls. This equipment is unfortunately very old, but at various points in time we've seen animals that appear deformed, or act particularly vicious, or that are hardly recognizable as such at all. But given the inferiority of the equipment, the footage is unclear and we haven't been able to get much valuable data from it.

Yes, that's right. We could also get better temperature readings if we could update our thermal sensors. Unfortunately, we've been unable to do so ourselves.

To put it simply, it's impossible for us to go outside the walls for the same reasons that we can't produce energy through physical contact. The drainage effects you all experience are greatly magnified for everyone from this city.

[Or, at least, that was one way to put it.]

That's another reason why we need help exploring the area outside the walls.

So, if one or two of us helped you scientists out with replacing old equipment... you could obtain better data on what's out there?

There would still be limitations, of course, but that's right.
