There isn't much fanfare in this posting, even with the official notice on the top. Actually, there's something almost stark in its simplicity. Just basic text and a blinking cursor on a black background, that slowly loads up into a full message:

Local and guest alike. Several months ago the city experienced a disruption in the form of a transmission hacking of an official feed; as many of you reading this are aware. We have since been reviewing the data and running decryption on the hijacking's interference, and have come to a conclusion on a location of the signal. It is outside of the city walls, which now makes it necessary for us to enlist the help of those called to the city. Be advised that the person is an unknown factor, and likely to be dangerous. In addition, the environment outside is hazardous as well, and should be approached with caution. Because of this risk, volunteers will be rewarded for their efforts. They will also be the first on the scene with uncovering answers that we all doubtless wish to discover. Representatives from their respective departments will be available to answer questions, and impart necessary information. Given the nature of this task, there may be additional requests granted. However, they are only requests. The first and major goal in this is gathering information. Fare you well, and may the Twins guard you while afield.

[Shinju's not keen on going out or even knowing about the dangers surrounding the city, and in fact he prefers to ignore them. But knowing that a few of his friends will want to explore means he wants to know what to expect this time. Maybe if just to try to discourage them. If it's even possible.]

How is it hazardous outside?

Outside the walls there is a draining effect, very similar to the conditions in the unopened districts within the city. The effect isn't as concentrated, however, so it is possible to explore outside with help. But it's critical for anyone going outside the city to maintain physical contact with another person, or else the draining effect will set in very quickly.

Some of our readings also indicate that there are likely monsters outside the city as well, so anyone who can't fight will need help from those who can.

What sort of geological environment will we be dealing with, first and foremost?

It is much like it is inside the city. A little rugged in the northwest region, but smooth plains and sloping hills. There used to be suburbs and slums outside them before the event, too.

From what we've seen over the wall, this hasn't changed. Though the local fauna and wildlife seem...different somehow.

Before someone heads out, what's the situation like outside of the city? Monsters, local wildlife? Plant life?

[There's a reason why the guards are so insistent that people stay inside the city. She wants to know.]

You likely won't find much plant life outside the city, but while there is a possibility of monsters. The real danger is a sort of energy drain not unlike it is in any part of the city that is closed off from the rest.

Much as it may interfere with certain data-collecting, it is suggested that those who do "head out" do so with at least 1 other individual.

Why should we hand them over to you? That's the first question that comes to mind. Of course, he's fairly sure that could make getting out of the city more difficult for him, so he'll keep that to himself and cooperate.]

What time do we leave? [He can read well enough; other people have already asked about the hazards. A few more questions come to mind, but this one's important too.]

We don't know, and if the scientists know, then they didn't share it with the rest of the class.

There IS a chance you'll find out the answers if you do, but we suggest caution. There's nothing to say they won't try to kill if anyone gets too close.

Well, s...you see, we don't know much about them either, really. We aren't even entirely sure that there are monsters, we just, well, strongly suspect it. We're limited in what kind of data we can collect, and what we do have won't be terribly useful f-from a practical standpoint.

[He's about to stop there, but something about her last comment prompts him to keep going.]

That's why we need all of you. So many of you have experience with exploration and dangerous situations and monsters and...and adventure. If all of you help, we can learn so much more than we ever could on our own.

Avoid a confrontation. Don't engage him directly or even let him see any of you, if it can be helped. All we want out of this is information and evidence of what he might be up to - there's no reason for any of you to put your lives at risk unnecessarily. We don't know who this person is, what they're capable of, or what they're willing to do, so we want everyone to be cautious above all.

There are many varieties of rewards that may be offered, even those of small items from home as the power levels allow.

Also, that device is not attuned to the magic of your world just yet. We would rather not have to repair it so suddenly, most esteemed guest.
