[Diarmuid looks from Prussia to England...or he will try to if England can't be seen anymore.]

Can I come visit sometime and meet you and the Bird in person? I bet my butterfly would like to play with him and the fairy! They can play tag!

I didn't realize you were that close! Lord England told me building three, but not where. I am in room 2-05! We're neighbors! Now, I really have to come and visit sometime. Or you can come visit me.

I do! I live here with my brother. He's about a year younger than I am, so I try to take care of him when I can.

[An embarrassed look crosses his face. Somehow, Diarmuid can't quite bring himself to finish saying 'a repeat of setting the kitchen on fire.']

Repeat of? [he sounds a little concerned. He never met Ancient Ireland... but he knew the modern Ireland... and knew England... he was betting it was a disaster]

[At Prussia's question, Diarmuid starts twisting his hands together nervously, eyes dropping to watch them instead of the person he is talking to.]

I accidentally set the kitchen on fire while I was making soup once...

I've done that before. it's no big deal.

[Diarmuid's eyes grow wide.]

England cooks... but he shouldn't play with fire. [he was totally not going to mention that England shouldn't cook. Nope... he values life, his stomach is strong]

[For a moment, Diarmuid just looks at England in surprise. He's an adult. Why would he have so much trouble cooking?

Finally, his attention shifts to Prussia.]

No one should play with fire! It is easy to get hurt that way and the smoke smells bad. It took forever to get it out of our apartment! The puppies were scared too.

I am a much better soup maker now. I am sure Lord England will get better too as long as he practices!

My cooking is delicious!

[Prussia knows he should step out of the conversation at this point. Let's not mention that England's cooking regularly makes Prussia pass out, but he never says anything negative because he can tell England makes an effort]

Yes, we have two puppies! They are going to be really big someday, but right now they are just little puppies like my brother and I are little heroes! My brother also has a horse and I have a butterfly!

[There is a bit of motion in Diarmuid's hair and suddenly a small blue and green butterfly appears to flutter next to the boy.]

See? Father made him for me!

[he keeps his sigh of relief hidden. Good thing the distraction worked]

What kinds of puppies?! [of course he knew dogs, his brother had three]

Umm...I'm not sure what their modern names are. I know the one I have will be like the hunting hounds that we have back home. He's going to be big and smart and his hair is all wiry...

[It's not the best description of an Irish Wolfhound, but he's seven. Sadly, his description of his brother's English Sheepdog isn't going to be much better.]

My brother's puppy is all white and fuzzy! Her fur is so long too. Much longer than my puppy's is!

What is a Va-ti? Is that your word for father? If so, yes! My father is a god and he made it for me to be my friend so I wouldn't ever be alone!

[ah yes, seven years old. He wasn't good at naming things either when he was that young... it's more miraculous that he remembers being that young]

He does care about me a lot! Even though I'm not his blood son, it doesn't matter. He still takes care of me and protects me and helps me learn everything I need to so I can be a great knight when I grow up!

[God that is sweet. His dad... yeah... let's not go there, Germania was a warrior heathen who was obsessed with Rome....]

Have you been keeping up with your training?

[Poor Prussia... If it helps any, Diarmuid's blood father...well, there is a reason no one talks about him and why there is a gap in Diarmuid's memory.]

I have been doing my best to! It's was hard while it was cold, but as soon as it gets warm again, I am going to start going back out every day to practice.
