[With the recent temperature fiasco, Pilouette hadn't been paying attention and September kind of snuck up on her. Now with a particular day coming up, she's found that she's ended up with a somewhat...odd problem. Having found herself unable to figure out an answer on her own, she decides to turn to the network. ]

You all know how people can come here from different worlds and different times and stuff, right? Well, um...hypothetically. Say someone just had their birthday. Like, maybe a month before coming here. But only a few months after getting here, it's already their birthday again!

Do I...uh, they just keep being the same age and wait a whole year or should they say they're older now? Oh! But the year is different, too, isn't it? I wonder if that matters...I've been thinking about it all day, but it just seems like, so totally complicated...!

[oh man. Good question. He can't… really say he's had that many, besides Nannasprite's mostly sprite-power produced cakes, which tended to taste of static, so…]

Caramel? Uh, maybe...I think I have some on hand.

[Strictly for baking, of course. It's not like she hangs out in her apartment eating candy all day. ...Not all day.]

Maybe we can melt it and mix it into the batter or something...

I've never made a caramel cake before, but I'm sure it'll turn out okay. I'll get stuff ready. You don't have to rush over or anything, okay?

[Pilouette is just donning her apron, having set all the ingredients out on her kitchen counter, when she hears a knock at the door. She scuttles over and opens it.]

Hi, you...uh, you must be Davesprite!

[He's a lot more...orange than she imagined. No, no, this is pretty normal considering, right? Yeah. Yes, of course. She offers her hand for a handshake.]

That's me, yeah. In the flesh and all.

[He reaches out to shake her hand, holding on for a couple of moments before he drops it, wings shifting a little.]

Okay, so… there anything you need me to do right now?

Well, come on in.

[She had measured out everything before hand and takes a second to think as she begins to head to the kitchen.]

Maybe you can sift the flour and stuff together...Have you done it before?

Can't be that hard, right?

[read: no. But he can try!]

Yeah! It's like, totally not hard at all.

[Once they're in the kitchen, she gestures to a few small bowls of dry ingredients next to a sifter that's been set inside of a mixing bowl.]

It's just like, mixing stuff and getting all the lumps out and junk. Just pour all that stuff into the sifter and kinda like, move it from side to side really gently. [She can't help but grin just a little.] It's like, been a while since I've been able to cook with another person...!

Okay. Sounds simple enough.

[he tucks his wings back against himself again, just to be sure that they're as out of the way as he can manage before moving over to investigate the sifter. He glances at her, head tilted a little.]

You used to cook with someone else back home? Family, or…?

Friends. Well...not always. Sometimes if my friends weren't busy, they would come over and we would make cookies or brownies or whatever.

It was a lot of fun. I was actually really starting to miss it. [Which is part of why she was so eager to take Davesprite on his offer of help with her cake baking.]

Pretty good way to spend some time together. And then you get to eat the results afterwards. [he's trying not to sound wistful, but- a little might creep through anyway. It's not like he and Bro ever really cooked, though, and Jade doesn't and John's not really into making baked treats, so it's kind of… a thing he's only really heard about.]

Yeah? Glad I could help out, then.

[he'll just busy himself with working the sifter now.]

Yeah...the eating was the best part, I think. ...I never really thought about it before now, but I feel like it always tasted better when we made it together.

[Pilouette begins creaming the butter and sugar together and nods.]

Thanks for that, by the way. Like, I'm not sure most people would have offered to help a stranger bake a cake, you know?

Weird how that happens.

[he shrugs, wings shuffling a bit.]

I dunno, I think getting a slice or two afterwards would probably motivate most people. But hey, no big deal. Make a friend, spend some time making a thing. It's all good.

That's a good point...I guess people do tend to like getting free food. ...I wonder if it counts as free if they're helping making it, though. Maybe baking like this more often would help me meet more people or something...

[She cracks an egg into her bowl and starts beating the mix together.]

When you're done with that, bring it over here, okay?

Could work. Get a club together, maybe even work up to getting a fair set up at some point.

Sure.

[aaaaaas the sifter gives him grief and some of the flour falls out the wrong way]

Whoops.

W-Well, I dunno about a fair, but a club might be nice. [Who would go to a cake fair...well, besides her?] We could all even share recipes or something...

[She turns around at that "whoops" and sees that spilled flour.]

Oh...ah, d-don't worry too much about that. Stuff like that is bound to happen and it's like, not like it's a whole lot anyway.

Make something new every week, or something like that.

Yeah? So it's not gonna throw off how much it rises or anything. Cool. [and he's pretty much done anyway, so once the flour's all through he brings it over.] What now?

Yeah...Maybe every once in a while everyone could make their own thing and we could have a party and taste what everyone made! It's kind of exciting just to think about it...[Especially for a sweetsmaniac like Pilouette.]

Since only a little bit got spilled it should be fine. [She just finishes stirring in a bit of vanilla when he brings the flour over.] Just slowly add the flour to this stuff while I stir. It keeps the batter from getting lumpy.
