02 - In Only Seven Days
[Ramza's standing before the Chocobo barn's open doors, and he's looking more than a little bit wearied as the feed begins broadcasting from the nearby terminal. More likely than not it has something to do with the three large, pale, ovoid shapes clearly visible in a nest within, with his red chocobo Persephone casually watching over them.
A saddled and yellow-feathered one, Boco, soon strides over, some dry grass and straw in his beak.]
Valentine's day, it seems, had gotten the better of these two as well... You've been passing generous, one and all, and both her prior clutch and the new one need not fear for snow or lack of nesting; I think it only fitting I return the favor one way or another.
[Ramza gives a cursory glance back as Boco begins padding out the nest, and returns his gaze to the terminal with a quiet sigh. Yet as soon as Ramza's sight is back toward the camera, Boco pauses, seemingly curious.]
...There's three eggs this time. The chicks can be a handful even more than the grown birds, but hand-reared they're adored as pets and mounts alike, and I offer them up to any capable hands or warm homes who would have them, with my blessings and gratitude.
If you have an interest in fostering them, I would hear it, and I will draw lots as before. And- should you need aid in caring for or hatching the eggs, I can aid you. Gold, as well; he's well-practiced in the matter.
[Persephone soon joins in her mate's curiosity; and, after a bit of nosing around between the eggs, Boco finally pulls out a small kitten by the nape of its neck. The two birds share a look of confusion that Ramza is quick to join as he turns around.]

Oh, you know, just Silver. Chobo wants him to meet her folks right and proper like. [Whisper whisper.] I'm thinkin' she might consider him her featherless brother 'cause they're both reds, you know? It's pretty cute.

...Are you saying that Chobo believes Silver to be some sort of... misshapen, featherless Chocobo?

On second thought, she's going to go preen Silver. He needs to look nice.]
Something like that. Maybe she's got the idea that he's not like her, see, but they share something in common so she just kind of suspends the rest of it. [Shrug! He's heard of different Pokémon living with each other like that, and Silver's pretty much a Sneasel-Weavile child too, so.] Chobo definitely took to him faster than she did me though.

Still, she seems fond and respectful enough to heed your words and moods; you must have done some good in raising her. I'm sure you've guessed from Persephone but her breed is not so bold in showing affection to their masters.

Aw, well, it was nothin'. I figured out that you've just gotta look for the little things with her, and I've got experience in dealin' with people like her. [Both of his friends can be difficult in their own way.] Not bad for a first timer though, huh.

What, to get him to respect me or whatever? The situation wasn't half as nice as it is here, so nah. We pretty much bonded over a shared goal. We're partners! [Like all his Pokémon! Family, partners, important to him... Chobo was up there too now.] Crys and Silver on the other hand... They're the ones who gave me trouble. You should've seen us a few years back.
[... Man, it's been like five years, huh. That's kind of weird.]

I can only imagine... though I wonder if anyone would look even a few years in the past and find pride in themselves.
[Ramza scowls. That thought cuts a little deeper still on himself.]
...though if you'll pardon my asking, Silver- how did you two become friends?

No, no. He doesn't want to think about his past self. He's in the present now.
...It looks like that's getting more than a little under Ramza's skin, though...
He tries to pry Chobo off of him for a few more seconds before responding.]
I think it was after we spent three weeks in a coma and almost got killed by Lugia. [Gold help him out here-]

[To further mess up Chobo's work, Gold gives Silver a well deserved noogie as he continues.]
That's when we met Crys, too. I figured that even if Silver went off to do his own thing, he'd still come back around 'cause we had a common enemy and all that jazz-- Whoa!
[And promptly gets squawked off screen by Chobo. How dare you mess up her work, Gold! Just because you look fine doesn't mean anything!!! Shoo! Shoo!!!]

So you two met as foes in battle... but what nearly killed you? 'Lugia,' you said?

That was our first battle just for fun. We picked some fights before that. [There. That's truthful but not more informative than it needs to be.] Lugia's this huge legendary Pokémon. It looks kind of like some mix between a bird and a dragon. [Yes. Lugia. Talk about Lugia. It sounds a lot more cool and dangerous and a lot less illegal.]
