02 - In Only Seven Days

[Ramza's standing before the Chocobo barn's open doors, and he's looking more than a little bit wearied as the feed begins broadcasting from the nearby terminal. More likely than not it has something to do with the three large, pale, ovoid shapes clearly visible in a nest within, with his red chocobo Persephone casually watching over them.

A saddled and yellow-feathered one, Boco, soon strides over, some dry grass and straw in his beak.]

Valentine's day, it seems, had gotten the better of these two as well... You've been passing generous, one and all, and both her prior clutch and the new one need not fear for snow or lack of nesting; I think it only fitting I return the favor one way or another.

[Ramza gives a cursory glance back as Boco begins padding out the nest, and returns his gaze to the terminal with a quiet sigh. Yet as soon as Ramza's sight is back toward the camera, Boco pauses, seemingly curious.]

...There's three eggs this time. The chicks can be a handful even more than the grown birds, but hand-reared they're adored as pets and mounts alike, and I offer them up to any capable hands or warm homes who would have them, with my blessings and gratitude.

If you have an interest in fostering them, I would hear it, and I will draw lots as before. And- should you need aid in caring for or hatching the eggs, I can aid you. Gold, as well; he's well-practiced in the matter.

[Persephone soon joins in her mate's curiosity; and, after a bit of nosing around between the eggs, Boco finally pulls out a small kitten by the nape of its neck. The two birds share a look of confusion that Ramza is quick to join as he turns around.]

I'd gladly take one of the eggs to raise if you'd allow me to. [It might help her with the homesickness a little, and it'll give her something to do. Something to take care of will certainly occupy her time.]

Of course! You're a good friend and familiar with Chocobos besides; Why would I refuse? [In hindsight, it shouldn't have surprised him to see Freya be so modest; but she had little cause for it all the same.]

And I as well; Persephone would not let so little as a cricket into her nest without notice. But, thank the Gods, it did not look to be after the eggs.

[A grumpy look from a certain Red chocobo off camera shows she's every bit as confused by the fact, of course...]

[Well, true. She couldn't think of a huge reason; perhaps it was just her worry that she may not do a good job. But back to the oddity in the situation...]

I don't think it could do much even if it were. [Chocobo eggs are kind of... not small.] It had a collar round its neck, did it not? Have you any idea of its owner?

Good; I had feared it was a stray. [Boco seems to be over his confusion, though; he casually strides past with a certain curled-up kitten upon his saddle.]

How did he even find his way here from housing? Was he gone long?

Chobo has more siblings!

She is so excited she's a big sister she's gonna teach them so so so much.

Gold is pretty honored and ecstatic himself! He was called upon! Publicly! All will know his name! And his station! Hell yeah!]

Well, well, congrats to the happy couple. Guess we'll be havin' ourselves a party to celebrate them, huh? That kitten'll be our first guest. [Chobo crows! Yes. Can they go visit them right now, Gold? Please? She wants to see them. Tug tug tug.] But I gotta admit, I'm pretty honored I got a mention. Mind if we come over to see them?

[Silver might tag along. Since Gold'll ask if he wants to come or make a mention about it.]

I will consider it; mahap when time comes to see them to their new owners. At least this time we need not fear for their warmth or shelter.

You're welcome to come visit, but there's little to be seen for now; only a set eggs in a nest, though I suppose that is your specialty. [Persephone leans into the frame to chirp out a greeting to Gold. Hello, eggsitter!]

[Boco's still staring at it, as well; it's like a tiny, less sharp-and-pointy version of those giant mountain lions they faced back at home!]

I shall, once I've a name to count. I do not think we've met; I am Ramza. Ramza Beoulve.

And he doesn't mind at all - in fact, Sora lets out a few more giggles before going on, too.]

You know, I'd never even seen a real chocobo before the ones here showed up. Are there a lot of them in your world?

[Boco and Persephone seem awfully excited to see her as well; they both quickly crowd the terminal beside Ramza, chirping happy little greetings to the nice bird-lady from before.

Ramza gently nudges them aside.]

How is yours? Healthy, I would hope; I usually do not see them in so pale a shade.

Only a bit. I would think there would be a longer period between clutches for such large birds.

[She giggles delightedly when the chocobos nose their way in, waving and- to her chicobo's delight- scooping it up to chirp at its parents.]
