2nd Brain Wave

"Hello everyone!"

[Wow, look at who has the brightest smile on today. M'gann even gives the video screen a cheerful wave as well.]

"So, I had a teammate- A really…Close teammate? Arrive a few weeks ago."

[Translation; 'I have a boyfriend and still don't know how to tell other people about it outside of blatant displays of affection and cuddling.']

"And I was just thinking, I should show him around the city. And I thought I could ask other people about places they've been to that they really like. And…Maybe people could talk about what they like or think makes for a good date? An Earth date, I mean!"

[Please don't mind the scowling boy behind her. Who seems to be mumbling something to the effect of,] "Why can't we just watch TV?"

A good Earth date, huh? [Her smile might be just a little bit teasing here. (Oh my gods this is actually adorable- and Piper really never uses that word.) Scowling boy doesn't intimidate her much, though she thinks she'll be careful not to get on his bad side, either.]

You could just keep it simple. Catch a meteor shower or falling stars, maybe have a picnic in your favorite spot, and make some of the foods you know he likes. Those leaf piles would make a great dessert.

"Yeah; a special Earth date too, if I can manage it."

[You see this face, Piper? This is a face of rapt attention and careful study; she is listening to every single one of those words and carefully filing them away.]

"And those all sound great! I-I guess you'd sort of know, right...? Being the goddess- being related to someone who knows a lot about love."

[If she can recall the conversation, and her full of holes Earth mythology lessons correctly.]

[Piper sees it, and she takes a second to hope the advice works out for M'gann. She usually doesn't volunteer it so much as people at camp come to HER, but M'gann is cool and she wants to help. She can at least try, right?]

Well, more like personal experience in this case. If you want the truth I don't think I take after my mother like most of my siblings did, but... that seemed to work out pretty well for me and my boyfriend back home.

"Really? Because you seem-"

[Nice, friendly, knowledgeable, like an Aphrodite kid; take your pick. M'gann isn't sure how to express any of that, though, and besides...She just revealed something very interesting indeed.]

"Wait, you have a boyfriend? You have a boyfriend too?"

[She looks sad for a moment that he isn't there; that's a shame. But even so, it makes her face light up.]

"That's great! And...It sounds like it would work out well. Given your advice, and all."

[She is quietly grateful for the subject change. Not like she thought M'gann was going to say something bad, just- this is easier to talk about.

And "too". M'gann's got a special someone and that is touching.]

Yeah, Jason, Jason Grace. It's a long story, but maybe I'll get to introduce you to him sometime.

[She hopes at least. Half hopes. Still not sure that the quest can afford it... and then she remembers that she's been gone for about two months now. Did they manage without her?]

I'll tell you about him sometime. Meanwhile, just make sure that whatever you pick it's something your boyfriend will be okay with. If he's not a fan of crowds you'll want to find something a little more private.

[Since those activities she suggested can sometimes draw crowds of young couples with the same idea.]

"Okay...Private seems good. Or at least not very crowded. Maybe...We could try the park? That seems pretty quiet."

[Good spot for a picnic, too. M'gann gives an enthusiastic nod when Piper talks about her boyfriend, eyes lighting up because...That's A Thing girls from Earth do, isn't it? Talk about boyfriends while braiding each other's hair and painting nails?]

"I'd...Love to hear about it sometime, too."

[She doesn't even notice the color shift in her face, as she thinks about Earth Girl Things.]

The park is a good place to start. Maybe someplace close to the next closed district? People seem to avoid those areas.

[She might not notice but Piper does- did......... did she just turn-]

... Uh... M'gann?? Did you just... turn...

[OH MY GOD PIPER you can't just ask people if they turned white.]

"Something wrong?"

[She was nodding so readily with those suggestions, too. But that stammer causes a pause, as M'gann gives the screen a worried look.]

[... Well, no avoiding it now, no tactful way to put this, really.] You just turned white. [Martian shapeshifting, what even is that. How is that a thing she doesn't know about yet?]

[She might have a few more things to be confused over, in a moment. M'gann's reaction to that is a wide eyed look of absolute terror and while she doesn't quite yell out 'NO!' it's right on the tip of her tongue. She doesn't contain that gasp very well, certainly, as she yanks away from the screen and looks down at her arms-

Which are NOT in fact white. They're a nice, pleasant peach color.]

"O-oh. Caucasian. It's...Yeah, it's something I know how to do. I guess I just sort of...Instinctively switched to something a little bit closer to you?"

[Maybe if she says all that, no one will make any comments about her reaction?]

Yeah... what did you think I- [But then, you know, she thinks better of it.] Nevermind. But that's totally amazing. I had no idea you could shapeshift.

[Okay. Okay, her heart rate can slow down now. There isn't anything wrong with the conversation now, or visibly wrong with her. M'gann keeps repeating that as she tries to steady her breathing and voice.]

"It's- It's something Martians can do. My uncle is really good at it, but everyone on Mars has some talent for it. I guess it's sort of like how some people can be really athletic on Earth? But it's something people still have to train if they want to be really good at it."

[She's babbling, M'gann knows. But, she's also steering the conversation away from that panic.]

[Scowling is pretty normal for this dude, no worries.]

That...doesn't sound too bad.

Dates don't have to be complicated to be special. Sometimes the most memorable dates are pretty low key.

[Read as: The life of a demigod. Superheroes can relate, surely.]
