First Lance - [video]

[The rat woman who may have been seen atop various buildings across the city appears on the screen, sans hat, looking unsure for a moment before appearing to realize the feed is working correctly. She clears her throat quietly before speaking in a serious manner.]

I have a question for you all, if you would be so kind as to answer.

There seem to be many worlds represented in this city, but I have noticed that there are many from a planet called Earth. I am from the planet Gaia, but I have yet to meet anyone from my world, be it the same or an alternate version.

So my question is: What world are you from, and is it similar to this place we've found ourselves in? I would like to see if there is any correlation between the home worlds of people brought here.

I've had to fight for a lot more than I ever thought I would. I don't like having to force my hand, but sometimes there's just no other option. [Being the League has also had a hand in that.]

I've been doing alright! I managed to get a few big changes done to my room, so it's definitely made my days here a lot easier. You should come have a look and see what I'm talking about.

I accepted fighting as my duty when I obtained my knighthood, but I sympathize. Many times I would rather have settled something with words where blades have been the only effective option. [Still, when someone invades your country, there isn't much to do but fight.]

I'm glad to hear it. It is good they have been accommodating... if there is nothing else I can say for them, at least they have provided the things that we need to survive. [She perks up a little out of interest at the invitation.] Certainly. I will stop once I'm certain no one else will respond to my question. Where do you live?

It's in the second building, third floor, should be room 02. [That's certainly a lot to give out. why were human room directions so long?] I'll leave the door open so you can come right in.

[Should Freya indeed let herself in, she'd find a few things different in Nami's room. For starters, it's bigger and more easily accessible than you'd expect as it was home to someone without legs. Also of note would be a wheelchair, in case of emergencies...

But perhaps the biggest change is that instead of a bed, Nami sleeps in a large tank filled with water. Naturally, it was made specifically for her, and that is where she was at that moment.]

[The apartment was noticeably larger than her own, for certain. She mused to herself that it was probably appropriate for someone who wasn't as accustomed to moving about on land as she stepped in with a brief knock on the door to notify Nami she had arrived.]

Ah, hello. I see now what you meant by "big changes."

[She swam up to the top of the tank, her arms crossed over the edge.] I told you. I had a moment to talk to them about what I needed and this is what they gave me.

[Nami exits the tank proper and... she's soaking wet. She obviously doesn't seem bothered by it, though.] What do you think? Pretty cool, huh?

[From her perspective? Yes, it probably is. From a surface dweller... Maybe not so much.]

You look as if you're enjoying yourself. [It was a little contagious, she had to admit. And she grew up walking into buildings soaking wet, anyway, so it was the norm for her.]

It does add charm to the room. [It would probably be cooler if it had decorations, though.] I take it it's comfortable enough?

It makes sleeping a whole lot easier. Now I won't have to worry about drying out overnight. [Ah ha ha... Wait.]

Uh, I'm joking, by the way.

[Drying out? Is that how mermaids work? W-well, it is good that she doesn't have to... oh, right. A joke, yes, of course.]

Oh--my apologies. Sometimes I take things more seriously than I should. ... Though it must be closer to what you're used to than a bed would be, at least.

[But Freya figures she doesn't spend all her time inside her room, so:] How has the city treated you so far? Have you found anything interesting to take up your time?

I wouldn't go that far, not yet at least. I've been talking to some of the other humans here and trying to get used to being here. But you're probably right...

Now that I'm not fighting, I should probably find something else to do.

Any ideas?

Well, there appears to be much to do in the Third District; that is where I see most people wander. There are markets there of all sorts... though I am not sure of the purpose of many of the things they sell.

Otherwise, I have heard of people acquiring jobs to pass the time, and I spoke with a young woman who wanted to arrange a sparring group. [Who knows? Maybe people will start arranging clubs or something.]

[The Market would be worth checking out, once she had found a way to earn some more money. Which brought her to...]

A job? [Yes, Nami. That thing most people in the surface world tend to do. You know about this already.] What kind of jobs do they even have here?

From what I have seen, there are people acting as shopkeepers and servers at restaurants. I think there may be other ones you may be able to find, but I would not know where to look...

[Sounded awfully domestic, and Nami wasn't sure if she wanted to settle in that much.] I think I'll pass on working at a restaurant.

I understand. [It wasn't anything she was looking at, either.] I am not particularly interested in finding employment, myself. My daily patrols are generally enough to pass the time.

Are there enough people here up to no good that you need to be patrolling the place? [Nami doesn't mean to sound skeptical or anything of the sort, she's just somewhat surprised that there's someone out there actually doing it.]

I am not certain, to be honest, but I would rather err on the side of caution. I would prefer to help people in the way I know best, and I'm not certain anything else here would allow me to use my current skills.

[She still has her pride as a knight... she's not sure she could take standing around working in a shop.]

Yeah, it's starting to look that way.

[Better safe than sorry, huh. Nami could get behind that line of thinking, definitely.] Think you might have room on your patrols for someone extra?

[She can't help but respond with a small smile.] I believe I might. I would be glad to have you join me.

I am a bit curious--what sort of combat experience do you have? [Nami had mentioned that she'd fought before, but she hadn't given any details.]

The humans back in Runeterra made me a champion and a member of their League. As far I know it's what they use to solve most of their conflicts, and it's where I do most of my fighting.

I can heal, and I can harm. And I can keep up with surface-dwellers just fine.

[Who needs legs.]

[She guesses that's all she really needs to know. She didn't doubt that Nami could hold her own.]

Then I'm certain we'll be able to handle ourselves if we do find something amiss.

Glad to hear it. If anybody's actually dumb enough to try something on us, we'll just wash them away.

[congrats, freya. nami's reached the point where she's dealing out the water jokes.]

[Between her rain-soaked home and Nami's ocean origins, everyone will be tired of water puns within the week.]

If anything, we'll probably need to go easy on them.
