[Video] Second Study Session
[It's Pete again, everybody! Looking a little...more embarrassed than usual, actually.]
So, I uh...I need a favor from one of you. Or several of you, even.
See, I'm just a teenager, obviously, so I haven't really figured out a lot of things yet, and, well, one of them's kind of important thanks to the whole 'kidnapping' thing.
And while I'm grateful they give us an allowance, I really would like to be able to spend it on something other than street vendors all month. So, I guess what I'm asking is, well...
[Out with it, Pete. Sheesh.]
...could any of you teach me how to cook? I mean, sure, there's a few cookbooks in the library, but the last couple of attempts didn't go so well. And I don't really want to risk burning the apartments down...again. It was scary enough the first time.
[Anyone living on Pete's floor: That is why you might've smelled smoke a while back. And to the so-far-unknown locals who were called in to repair the kitchen, he is so, so sorry.]

[Video]
I know how to cook.
[Video]
Any chance you'd be willing to teach me? Preferably before I progress from burning down the kitchen to burning down the whole building?
This place is uncomfortable enough as it is without everyone being mad at me.
[Video]
I'm willing to do it if you're alright with it. Just let me know when and where.
[Video]
...water tends to cause more problems.
[That right there? That's what experience sounds like. Recent experience.]
[Video]
[Let him get some things since he's actually at a store right now.]
What's your apartment number? I can come over in twenty minutes.
[Video]
How's your schedule for tomorrow?
[Considering work seems to be optional in this place]
[Video]
I'm open whenever.
[video]
[Guess who was just watched the video, and is acting like Christmas has come early? M'gann stares at the screen in her Megan disguise, grinning from ear to ear.]
"I could help with that! I've been learning a lot about cooking, and I'd love to share it with people if you're up for it; I even have ingredients for this great pasta dish that I've been wanting to make, so-"
[Don't get too carried away. Or forget to breathe. After an inhale, M'gann continues.]
"I'm Megan, by the way. Nice to meet you!"
[video]
Uh...right! I'm Peter, but most people just call me Pete. And sure, I'll take you up on that offer!
...I mean, you can't actually burn pasta, right?
[Please tell him he's right. You cook it in water for crying out loud, do not give him the opportunity to set more food on fire.]
[video]
[Oh, she's still very much all smiles, even if she takes a moment to consider the question.]
"I don't...Think you can? At least you'd have to make a special effort; like leaving it on a heat coil or something. I know you can overcook pasta, but that's not the same as burning it. It should be okay, though! I've made pasta several times, even if I haven't made this dish specifically...But I've made things close enough to it?"
[More smiles, this time a little on the nervous but hopeful side; she WANTS to appear competent at this, after all.]
[video]
It's not gonna be too difficult, right? I mean, I really can't stress enough how painfully new I am at this. Aunt May did all the cooking back home, even after the doctor told her not to.
[He'll keep the part about how he got pancakes stuck on the ceiling when he tried to take over a secret for now, though.]
[video]
[M'gann promises, already backing away from the screen as her thoughts whirl.]
"Just...Just give me a second to get the ingredients together! Then I can meet you...Meet you somewhere? Wherever is good? And I can teach you about this. It'll be fun!"
[video]
We could always use my apartment if you want. Now that the stove's working again, I mean.
[video]
"Wonderful! Then I'll see you in just a bit; it shouldn't be long, and I'll be over there as soon as possible so we can get started!"
[She vanishes from the screen with a surprising amount of quickness, looking real keen to get started on this new project...Although a moment later, she comes back with a sheepish look.]
"Um...Where can I find your apartment?"
[video]
M'gann'sMegan's eagerness and positive attitude's kind of infectious at least, and she gets a brief chuckle when she returns on screen.]I'm in 2-17. I can leave the door unlocked if you want.
[video] -> [action]
[She's a little pink in the face as she says that...And also makes haste with getting to her kitchen for real this time. It's a blur of motion as she loads all the dish ingredients into a pair of tough looking tote bags, drapes them both around her elbows...And then puts on her camouflage and grows her clothing out a little into a cloak. When it's long enough she clutches the bags close and wraps them up in her now stealthed form, then cheats by flying to the other apartment instead of walking. She only turns the camouflage off when she's landed, and is hopefully well out of sight, before finding Peter's apartment.
And all in record time, too! She's quite proud of herself as she knocks on the door.]
[action]
Hang on, just one sec!
[crapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrap! He'd never really expected company this soon, and quite a bit of his hero stuff was still out in the open. The mask, gloves, and webshooters were easy enough to hide-- just tossing them in his desk drawer in the bedroom-- but the chemistry set he'd been building up? Slightly less so.
It wasn't the set itself that would've posed a problem really, but what he'd been working on for the past few weeks. Explaining why he was playing around with synthetic webbing might be a little difficult. So he had that evidence to hide, too. Not to mention the web packs, the belt...
After a little scrambling though, he's got it all taken care of, and his apartment looked every bit as sparse and dull as it did when he moved in. Not to mention completely inconspicuous, which was the important thing here.]
Alright, you can come in! Er, hang on, let me get the door!
[Because she was probably carrying things. Things she might not be able to see him over when he opened the door, depending on just how much was necessary for what she was planning. He was already at least an inch shorter than she was, after all.]
Hi! That was...a lot faster than expected, honestly. Do you need help with anything?
[action]
Which isn't too hard to do, considering her current mood, and it's well in place when he opens the door.]
"No, no! It's fine; I've got everything,"
[As she tries to shrug off any of that lingering oddness in her mind. No need to dwell on how fast she got over here; that can be chalked up to excitement, right?]
"Just tell me where the kitchen is, so I can set this down and we can start sorting!"
video;
He's also somewhat amused. Not full-tilt laughing-at-your-suffering amused, because he's very aware of and very grateful for his fortune in having a friend here who is a stellar cook and willing to share with him.]
I hear it's just like chemistry. I have no idea if that helps or even if it's remotely true, but that is what I hear.
video;
I'm looking to cut back on that.
video;
[That will cause him to laugh at your suffering.]
Hope I'm not in your building!
video;
video;
You know, you could always make a sandwich.
video;
Not to mention I doubt it even comes close to meeting basic nutritional requirements.
video;
There's always cereal, too. Soup... I hear that's at least somewhat easy.
video;
[ Here's a girl likely younger than him intrigued by the fact that someone doesn't know how to. Don't they teach him in school or what about his parents? ]
Cookbooks teach immediate baking, but there's a lot of simple stuff you can make in the meantime.
video;
[Pete you are overcomplicating this.]
video;
You said that you tried before... and almost started a fire? What did you do?

And because I could use as much help as possible, really.

I mean, it's an apartment, not a mansion. I've got limited space to work with, here.
[Not like he'd know what to do with a mansion, either though. That just seems like it'd be too much space.]

That and cooking things all ready to go.

[Until then, he hadn't thought you could make yams rock-hard through any means besides freezing them. Boy, did he learn.]

I can make a pretty awesome breakfast but that's pretty far as it goes.
You can't screw up eggs. [As infrequent as he ever got to eat them.]

[He is the voice of experience here, Duo. Better listen.]

[Chancy, Parker, but at the same time, it's not like he wants to hear anyone swearing every other word inside his own kitchen]
[video] you can never escape him peter
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I thought teenagers were supposed to think they had figured everything out.
To think the sitcoms lied to me all this time...
