First Lance - [video]

[The rat woman who may have been seen atop various buildings across the city appears on the screen, sans hat, looking unsure for a moment before appearing to realize the feed is working correctly. She clears her throat quietly before speaking in a serious manner.]

I have a question for you all, if you would be so kind as to answer.

There seem to be many worlds represented in this city, but I have noticed that there are many from a planet called Earth. I am from the planet Gaia, but I have yet to meet anyone from my world, be it the same or an alternate version.

So my question is: What world are you from, and is it similar to this place we've found ourselves in? I would like to see if there is any correlation between the home worlds of people brought here.

[Freya nods in response, appearing to agree with his observation. She... doesn't touch the traveling to other worlds thing for now. It probably seems more incredible to her than it does to people from other worlds.]

It would not surprise me if that were the case. However... many other worlds seem to have some major conflict going on, as well. Perhaps that is a common thread between the people who have been brought here...?

[He makes a considering sound- certainly that seems to make sense, but he doesn't want to jump to conclusions just yet. He's barely been here for a week, after all.]

That's a possibility- conflict may bring out certain traits in people that are desirable. But even that seems almost too generalised to be useful right now. [He taps the terminal thoughtfully.] Judging by what they've told us alone, the only requirement for being brought here seems to be "able to touch".

... You are right. There are all sorts of conflicts a world might go through. Perhaps it is not a meaningful connection. [She takes a moment to think, tilting her head very slightly. Was all of this really going to help? ... No, she shouldn't think that. There must be something she can do, and information could help her find out what--eventually.]

Certainly, parts of what they have said appear to be true, and they would have no reason to lie about wishing for us to maintain physical contact if that would benefit them. I simply hoped to gain some deeper insight into the intentions of those behind this...

[Ah. He hadn't quite meant to be so crushing; there's nothing inherently wrong with brainstorming. He tries again, attempting, a touch awkwardly and not entirely successfully, to soften some of the natural steel out of his voice.]

It's a start, and every option should be explored before we start ruling anything out. [A pause- then he sighs.] It is true, though, that they seem to be telling the truth for the most part- which, in a way, just makes things all the more difficult for us. Lies of omission are so much harder to pin down.

I suppose we need more information before we attempt to assume anything. But you are right, and it is for that reason I've hesitated to ask much of the native people of this city. [She wouldn't blame him for offering his opinions; she's looking for input, criticism included.]

With so many people involved, it may prove difficult to gather all of what we have learned into one place... I wonder if the others might be willing to write down their experiences here so far so that we might get a clearer picture?

That may be helpful, particularly if the people who have been here longest contribute. The early days may have been the most unstable. Still, it seems like a lot of material to get through for what is essentially a fishing expedition... [He trails off thoughtfully- then seems to catch himself.] ... I'm sorry. I haven't even asked for your name.

It will require effort, and it may not bring much of value in the end, but we get nothing if we do not at least try. [She's got to be determined to do something. ... She'll have to think about how to go about that, though.]

That is fine. My name is Freya Crescent. And yours?

Kinnikuman Soldier. At home I'm captain of the Choujin Special Police, if that means anything at all to you. [His tone is dry and faintly self-deprecating; it's obvious that he doesn't expect her to know it.] I'd be glad to help with whatever investigation you or anyone else might decide to undertake here.

I am not familiar with your group specifically, but as a Dragon Knight, I believe I can understand your position as a soldier of sorts. [She can at least tell he's probably trustworthy.]

I would truly appreciate your assistance, Kinnikuman. [People here have all sorts of interesting names.] And I'll be sure to contact you if I learn of anything new.

Ah- [That seems to throw him a little, and there's a short pause as he gathers himself again. "Kinnikuman"... hmm. It's strange to think that he could very well have ended up going by that name alone if he'd stayed at home all those years ago- if he'd never run away, if he'd done what was expected of...

... he's being dramatic. Abruptly, he starts again.] Just "Soldier" is fine- and thank you. I can't say I know what a "Dragon Knight" is either, but we'll need all sorts of expertise to figure this out.

[Oops... Did she hit a sore spot? She's just been assuming people have given their first and last names. But Soldier it is.] My apologies if I offended you.

But you are right. I'm certain we can convince others to contribute what they know. [She isn't sure her battle knowledge will be all that helpful... unless they actually end up having to fight something. She hopes it doesn't come to that.]

No, no. It's just... complicated. [His tone, closed and almost final, is hard to pin down- there's a strange undercurrent of nostalgia to it, like an unspoken sigh.] Regardless, I hope you're right. You seem to be gathering a lot of information here already.

[She wasn't about to pry, even if he sounded more open to explaining it. Their personal backgrounds aren't important here.]

I merely hope I can keep track of it all. I should write down what I have learned to make certain... [They've got to have quills around here somewhere, right? And that weird parchment is used all the time.]
