[ The feed starts with a bespectacled face looking worriedly into the screen. He smiles when he makes sure it's working. ]
Oh, great- Hello everyone! Well, you know, they're kind of hard to miss, but I figured I'd ask the network here to see if anyone's heard anything about these power outages and flickering we've had going on. Kind of a bad time, eh, with the season it is. Miserable to be without air conditioning...
[ Laughing and tucking some hair behind his ear. Being on camera always made him a little nervous. ]
A-anyway, I thought the generator meet-up thing a couple weeks back was supposed to create more power...? I dunno, just figured I'd ask and get anyone else's thoughts on it. Hope it's not a bad sign, you know?

[She hadn't thought too much about it until now, but now she's starting to worry.]
You don't really think it means something is super wrong, do you?
[ video ]
[ He tries to look optimistic, but he can't help but frown. ]
It's just weird they haven't made an announcement, right? Usually they're good about keeping us up-to-date...
[ video ]
...I wonder if that means that they like, don't know know what the problem is. Like, if they don't know there wouldn't be a whole lot they could tell us, right?
[ video ]
But I'd still rather hear them say that than just sit here in the dark.
[ Oh Canada, stop making bad puns. ]
[ video ]
Yeah...But maybe they don't want to freak us out. Like...what's the saying? "No news is better than bad news?" ...Oh! Maybe everyone generated so much power that it messed up the generator or something! Like a power surge or something!
[Not that it's any better (or even how that kind of thing works) but the idea that they all might be making some kind of impact makes her feel a little bit better.]
[ video ]
[ He quietly mumbles, but he nods quickly, glad to have someone to help bounce ideas off of. ]
That's an idea... A power surge. But I have a feeling that would've happened within a couple days of the meet-up.
Or maybe I wonder- Maybe the opening of the new District is sucking all the power or something? It seemed really soon to do something like that... We've only been here a month or so right?
[ video ]
[She really thought she was on to something there. When he mentions District Three, the gears in her head start to turn. One can almost see the smoke.]
I didn't think about that! But there have been people there since before we got here, so what would be using so much...
Oh! Because they were having power troubles, I bet people had to conserve and stuff, right? You don't think that maybe since all those generators got charged up or whatever that people started using a bunch more stuff, do you? Kind of like when you haven't eaten all day, when you finally can you eat a whole lot, right? But then it's too much and you totally crash...
[It's not a perfect comparison by any means, but...]
[ video ]
Well it definitely makes me feel better that there seem to be at least a few theories about what could be causing this other than... you know.
The whole place is just running out of power. [ With a weak laugh. ]
I'm Matthew, by the way, don't think we've met before.
[ video ]
[This conversation did not ease any worries she had.]
O-Oh! You're right we haven't! ...To be honest, I haven't actually met a lot of people. [She lets out a sheepish little giggle.] Um, I'm Pilouette. Nice to meet you!
[ video ]
It's great to meet you. It's too bad it's under such... iffy circumstances.
Gosh I just really wish they'd say something; really is kind of unsettling. Don't hesitate to ask us when they need our help, but when we're potentially blacking out? They're all quiet as mice.
[ video ]
To be honest, I hadn't actually thought about how quiet they were being before, but now...I mean, like, I don't wanna think they're really keeping anything from us, but maybe they just don't think anyone is worried about it. M-Maybe if someone went and asked them...!
[Not that she's gonna do it. She's not good with questioning authority...]
[ video ]
That's what I was kinda hoping for... [ Because nope nope he's not good with that either. Passively, like this? Sure! Asking them outright? No he'll be over here. What problem? ]
[ video ]
Maybe we can ask someone to ask for us! ["Go ask them for me!" High school tactics can be applied to other situations, right?] ...I wonder if the guy next door would do it...?
[ video ]
[ 'Cause on one side's America (who would probably do it if he hasn't already), and he's never actually met the other fellow next door to him.
America says he's a vampire, but America also believes in ghosts so how reliable is that?
Not to mention all the other people on his hall besides Pilouette. ]
[ video ]
[She totally did finger quotes.]
He seems like the kind of guy who would be good at asking questions about that kind of stuff since he's like, kinda talky. But even if they don't answer his questions, I bet he would be able to find out a lot of important stuff anyway! I mean, people who do that kind of work kind of have to be able to do that, I think.
[Though, Pilouette's ideas of what America's "work" is stems from a somewhat...active imagination.]
sorry this is so late!
He's very good at asking questions- Not the kinda guy who's shy about it either. I bet he could do it- yeah definitely would do it- if we asked.
If nothing else he's the "hero" type; as you can expect from the good ol' U.S.A.
No problem!
But what do you mean by "hero" type?
[She wonders if this will confirm her assumptions.]
so sorry for late, been a crazy week!
Well... [ How to phrase this. ]
He's always the first guy to sign up to save the day, no matter what the risk or the cost or, well, anything. Even if it's stupid and reckless, he'll do whatever it takes if it's the right thing to do.
[ With a tired, worried smile. How many nights had he spent agonizing over another one of America's wild plans for "freedom" again? ]
No probs!
That's...
That's so COOL! I don't think I've ever met like, a real hero before...!
[Even if it's likely not the impression that Matthew intended to make with that description, Pilouette can't help but be impressed. Someone who throws himself into danger to help others, no matter what the cost...So America isn't just some kind of super-spy like she thought! He's an actual hero...!]
no subject
Yeah feel free to tell him that, he'd appreciate it. No one has ever wished he was actually Captain America more than Al- America, even.
[ What are names? ha. ]
no subject
[She can't help but be just the tiniest bit disappointed. "Al" isn't a very heroic name. But wait, if Matthew knows America's real name...]
Sooo...you know America pretty well, huh?
