[Asuka - the eyepatch'd one - comes onto the screen... and looking none too good. Pale, bags under her eye and shivering despite a blanket and a heavy jacket. Yeah. Even her voice is hoarse:]

Anyone wondering about that side effects thing... well, it's pretty fucking confirmed. I'm about three weeks in; haven't touched anybody. Said I would a while ago; experiment.

Fever, headaches, sleep disruption... I think I'm starting to hallucinate. I'm calling it off.

They're not lying about that.

Although I can see your symptoms, I can't make out a cause as of yet.

What does that mean? It's not designed to pick the type of cause up or what?

It means either I don't have enough data yet. It's possible my scans are not specific enough. But if I continue to collect data, I may be able to infer something without direct evidence.

Working with entirely new phenomena can be difficult. [But he looks more intrigued than anything.]

[Asuka nods -then quickly looks like she regrets it]

You have experience in this sort of thing?

In new phenomena or in energy drainers? Both, frankly. I have been denied an education and have had to cobble it together myself. If an answer can be found, I will find it.

[He doesn't sound especially smug when he says it. It's just a fact in his mind.]
