So, I guess we're kind of stuck here, huh?

[Maya's sitting in the apartment she was assigned to, cross-legged on the bed.]

It's not so bad. But, uh, I kind of need a favour--

if anyone ever sees a lawyer with spiky hair like this-- [She mimes a mimic of Phoenix's spikes]-- or a little girl with clothes like mine, let me know, okay?

They're basically my bro and sis.

[She moves as if to end the transmission before remembering--]

Oh! Right! I'm Maya Fey.

[Shinju opens with a smile and a half-raised eyebrow.]

"Kind of stuck," yeah. But you're right; it can be pretty nice.

I haven't ever heard of a lawyer with spiky hair [Is that even appropriate for court?], but I'll keep an eye out.

Nice to meet you, Shinju. Yeah, I got in with all the other people a few days ago.

[That had been an adventure.]

And I think his hair's just always like that. He's pretty hard to miss, and he's always in a blue suit.

I hope you're adjusting alright. It took me a while to wrap my head around the situation...

[He puts his chin in his palm.] Naturally spiky, huh? [He guessed his hair wasn't too different; maybe he shouldn't judge.] It doesn't sound like he'd be too hard to spot. Not a lot of people brought here that I've seen wear a suit...

Nah, I'm still kind of confused. But the packet kind of made it sound like a video game, so I think I've got it!

I mean, a really weird video game, but.

[He laughs at that.]

I certainly thought there were some people that looked like they were out of a video game, but I hadn't thought about the situation like that. I'm not sure what kind of game would have "hug as many people as you can" as a goal.

I've been here about a month and a half, so I might be able to help if you want to know something.

I dunno, there are kind of a lot of weird video games out there. I bet there are even ones about being a lawyer. You can make video games out of anything these days.

Um... I guess I'm just wondering-- do people really get sick?

Maybe so. If this sort of thing can happen, it's not that much of a stretch to say there are games about lawyers.

[He sighs, knitting his eyebrows slightly.] Unfortunately, yes. You're usually just dizzy or tired at first, but if you leave it, it'll get so bad you can't even stand.

I haven't gotten sick, myself, but I've met a few people who were. I guess I'm just glad it's something that I can actually help with.

...huh. But... any kind of touch works, right? Is it so bad...?

Yeah, anything works. I don't really know why people are avoiding it that much...

I remember there was one person a while ago who wanted to test what would happen, but now that it's been confirmed, I don't get why anyone would want to put themselves through that when the worst you'd have to worry about otherwise is... feeling awkward.

I don't know-- getting sick seems a lot worse than feeling awkward.

I mean, it's gotta be harder getting touch if you're sick.

Yeah, I feel the same.

Especially if you're having trouble walking around and you don't have access to the network from where you are. I just hope no one holes themselves up in their room and ends up not getting help...

You don't think something really bad could happen... do you?

[She hasn't read anything about that in the packet...]

As much as I'd rather think not, it's better to be prepared for it. It's not like injuries don't exist here, either... Anything is possible.

Yeah, for sure. The last thing I want to do is get sick on some weird magic planet because I forgot to hug someone for a few days.

[ so many messages, so little time. Jack can't fathom how people spend their whole day on these things, but he sat down at the terminal, peeling away at an orange as he pondered this message, returning like for like kind. ]

[ he smiles kindly, striping away another chunk of orange peel in clear view of the camera. ]

I'll keep an eye out for her miss, but... [ he paused ] If I find her, how should I contact you? An address might be better rather then hoping you'll see a message on this thing of course.

Hah! Now you're asking for it.

[His smile falters for a brief moment, but it comes back quickly enough.] Y-yeah. Thankfully I've managed to make a few friends here.

[Man, people sure are friendly here.]

Oh, no, she's incredibly cute. Buuut-- we can't do personal calls? A-and we can't check the center we entered in, you don't think?

[She's not stalling not to tell him her address-- she just doesn't have it memorised.]

Oh, we'll see.

[Don't think she didn't notice that.]

[ Give it another month. Once they realize home is never a place they'll see again, mayhem will (likely) ensue. ]

Hmmm... Well, I suppose I can, but a letter might still be faster. Although if you wish to maintain your privacy, I'm sure the center would be willing to send a message on my behalf.

[ It's always good to get the little things ironed out when they become an issue. ]

[Without ending the transmission, she drops the communicator on the bed and hurries to the door to check the number before rushing back.]

--Oh, and if you do see her, she wears her hair up in a pretzel knot.

Haha. I'm moving up in the world now. Soon I will have at least ten friends.

By the way, if you ever visit the river, there's a place to eat there called the Beachside Shack. I work there in the morning and lunch sometimes, so feel free to ask for me if you go. [What do you mean shameless advertising? He likes the extra money.]
